Why High Dimensional Modeling in Actuarial Science?

چکیده
We describe the Generalized Additive Family which covers Generalized Linear Model, Generalized Additive Model, Neural Network and Boosting and more. We outline the theoretical features of each member, along with the corresponding implications on actuarial applications. A complete procedure that details the data-scrubbing, preliminary data diagnosis, variable selection, model selection and model diagnosis is presented for each family member to model claim frequency for a set of real life data. This paper aims to provide a robust framework to actuaries on how multiple modeling techniques can help enhance the credibility of popular pricing models.

Cyber Risk Exposure and Prospects for Cyber Insurance
This study draws attention to the ubiquitous and borderless nature of cybercrime. It examines the prospect of introducing customized cyber insurance policy in the Nigerian market. As secondary data was not available, the study conducted a survey by administering three sets of questionnaire to purposively selected top executives in four Trade Groups that rely heavily on Internet transactions for...
متن کاملRobust high-dimensional semiparametric regression using optimized differencing method applied to the vitamin B2 production data
Background and purpose: By evolving science, knowledge, and technology, we deal with high-dimensional data in which the number of predictors may considerably exceed the sample size. The main problems with high-dimensional data are the estimation of the coefficients and interpretation. For high-dimension problems, classical methods are not reliable because of a large number of predictor variable...
متن کاملThree-dimensional modeling of transport phenomena in a planar anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell
In this article three dimensional modeling of a planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was investigated. The main objective was to attain the optimized cell operation. SOFC operation simulation involves a large number of parameters, complicated equations, (mostly partial differential equations), and a sophisticated simulation technique; hence, a finite element method (FEM) multiphysics approach ...
متن کاملActuarial Geometry
The literature on capital allocation is biased towards an asset modeling framework rather than an actuarial framework. The asset modeling framework leads to the proliferation of inappropriate assumptions about the effect of insurance line of business growth on aggregate loss distributions. This paper explains why an actuarial analog of the asset volume/return model should be based on a Lévy pro...
متن کاملSOME COMPUTATIONAL RESULTS FOR THE FUZZY RANDOM VALUE OF LIFE ACTUARIAL LIABILITIES
The concept of fuzzy random variable has been applied in several papers to model the present value of life insurance liabilities. It allows the fuzzy uncertainty of the interest rate and the probabilistic behaviour of mortality to be used throughout the valuation process without any loss of information. Using this framework, and considering a triangular interest rate, this paper develops closed...
